The Ladies European Tour (LET) and the Taiwan LPGA Tour have announced their collaboration to co-sanction the prestigious Wistron Ladies Open, a US$1 million tournament set to take place at the picturesque Sunrise Golf and Country Club in Taiwan from October 10-13, 2024. This partnership marks a significant milestone for women’s professional golf, as it brings together players from both tours to compete on an international stage.
The Wistron Ladies Open has been a staple event on the Taiwan LPGA Tour since 2020, but this will be the first time it will be featured on the LET’s official schedule. The inclusion of 45 LET players in the 108-player field will not only elevate the competition but also provide a platform for cultural exchange and inspire greater interest in golf in Taiwan.
Alexandra Armas, the CEO of LET, expressed her excitement about co-sanctioning the tournament, stating that it strengthens the ecosystem of women’s professional golf and provides an exciting playing opportunity for both tours’ memberships. TLPGA Chair Ms. Yi-Chen Liu also emphasized the importance of deepening their relationship with the LET and enhancing their tour on an international level.
The tournament will be supported by Wistron Corporation, a global technology service provider that has been a key sponsor of the TLPGA since 2006. Wistron’s commitment to the event is evident in their continued sponsorship and the significant increase in prize money from US$800,000 in 2023 to US$1 million in 2024, making it the highest-paying tournament on the TLPGA Tour.
Jeff Lin, Wistron’s President and CEO, highlighted the shared values of resilience, sustainability, and innovation between Wistron and golf. The company aims to deliver the best experience to all golfers and fans, further enhancing the tournament’s prestige and appeal.
The Wistron Ladies Open promises an exciting competition with a first prize cheque of US$200,000 and a symbolic trophy inspired by the famous Claret Jug, bearing the names of past champions. The tournament is expected to attract a star-studded line-up, with past participants including renowned players like Yani Tseng.
The Sunrise Golf and Country Club, known for its challenging layout and hosting high-profile international events, will provide a fitting stage for the Wistron Ladies Open. With a history of hosting prestigious tournaments, including the LPGA Taiwan Championship and the Taipei Summer Universiade, the course will test the skills of the world’s best players.
The return of the LET to Taiwan after two decades adds to the excitement surrounding the event, with memories of past champions and iconic moments in women’s golf. The Wistron Ladies Open is poised to be a thrilling showcase of talent, sportsmanship, and camaraderie, highlighting the growing popularity and competitiveness of women’s professional golf on a global scale.
