Wickliffe’s projects show promise in boosting city’s economy

Must read

Wickliffe Mayor Joe Sakacs is a man with a vision when it comes to economic development in the city he leads. There is a lot happening in Wickliffe right now, with current and proposed efforts aimed at boosting both the business and residential sectors.

One exciting development is the upcoming opening of Online Liquidation Auction LLC in the west end section of the city. This company, known as OLA, will be located at 28801 Euclid Ave., a property that has seen various uses in the past, including a drive-in, bowling alley, and RollHouse. Mayor Sakacs sees this as a significant win for Wickliffe, as OLA has grown from humble beginnings in a garage to selling over 35,000 items per week. The company’s unique auction model, described as the “Amazon of auctions,” is sure to attract a large number of customers to the location, potentially bringing in 800 to 1,000 cars daily for pickups. This influx of traffic is expected to benefit surrounding businesses and create job opportunities, with OLA planning to employ between 30 to 40 people within its first year of operation.

In addition to OLA’s arrival, Wickliffe is also seeing other developments in the works. A New York-based company has purchased the former McDonald’s location on Euclid Ave. with plans to open a standalone restaurant, adding to the city’s dining options. Furthermore, the former ABB Inc. site, which has been vacant for some time, may soon see new life. Premier Development Partners is working on securing funding to redevelop the property, with plans to demolish the existing building, construct a new facility, and attract businesses that could bring much-needed jobs to the area. Mayor Sakacs is optimistic about the potential for revitalization at the ABB site, emphasizing the importance of ongoing efforts to ensure that it does not remain empty indefinitely.

The enthusiasm and dedication shown by Mayor Sakacs and the various developers involved in these projects are commendable. The city of Wickliffe stands to benefit greatly from these initiatives, which promise to bring new businesses, job opportunities, and a renewed sense of vibrancy to the community. As Wickliffe continues to evolve and grow, it is essential for city government leaders and private developers to collaborate effectively to sustain this positive momentum and drive further economic development in the region. With a clear vision and a commitment to progress, Wickliffe is poised for a bright future ahead.
